Griffy's Golf Cart

We needed pictures to document what was probably the best day of Griffin's life, so far.  When we were down in Georgia back in April, we celebrated Griffin's 2nd Birthday.  And in true Meme fashion, she made it incredibly memorable for him, except that he's two and without these pictures it may not make the long term memory bank:).
When he woke up from his nap, we brought him outside to see what was under the blanket.
A golf cart.
For Griffy.
These pictures don't do justice to the excitement and awe he felt.
Oh yeah, he drove it around the circle.
Over. and over. and over.....again.
It's pretty much all he wanted to do.
And when he thinks about he just says, "I want to go back to Meme's new house, and ride my golf cart."
Every once in awhile he would stop and get out his clubs and play.
We had to tell him it needed to be charged every once in awhile so he could take a break.
But it was most definitely the best thing he's ever experienced.  It probably wouldn't be as special if he had access to it all the time, so for now, we will just hope for a trip back to "Meme's new house," soon.

Newborn Photoshoot

When Hattie was 10 days old, we had Jennifer Browning from PaleBlu Photography come and snap some shots of her.  She came and did Griffin's newborn pics two years ago and we loved them, so of course we called her again.  She was awake for the first bit of photos and then fell asleep for a few.  She peed and pooped on a few different blankets/props, but all in all it was a successful shoot.
Anyway, enjoy!

Hattie: 5 months

All of the sudden, Hattie is not an infant anymore.  She is a baby.  Full on giggles, dipping her toes in the pool and sitting in a high-chair baby.  And she is actually 5 months, today. (I'm not super late!)

Not much new in the schedule department.  Nursing at 7 am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm and eating maybe 1-2 oatmeal cereal meals a day (just following a feeding).  Her morning naps are still unpredictable depending on what we're up to, but she's doing great most afternoons sleeping from about 2/2:30-4/4:30.  She still likes her little Aden Anais lovie on her face, so I try to sneak in and take it off when it's fully covered.  What a stinker!

She loves to do "happy baby" yoga pose, especially while in her birthday suit.  As soon as she is on the changing table she lifts her feet right up and holds them with her hands.  She is still not crazy about playing with toys...she would much rather sit on someone's lap and chit-chat.  But you can't quite understand her yet because her hand is always in her mouth.

Her spitting up has gotten better, some days are worse than others.  But she is in a total blow-out phase.  She blows out almost every time she poops...partly because she poops while she is in the high chair and I think there is no where to go but up.  She doesn't fit in her cloth diapers yet because her chubby legs are too big for the diapers that should fit her.  And the smaller ones aren't absorbant enough yet.  So, we're stuck rocketing poop right up her back a few times a day.

She loves to spend time outside.  She is so content when people are conversing and hanging out, and even tries to join in the conversation.  She still loves to watch Griffin and is starting to watch Cooper.  Other than peek-a-boo and tickling, the only thing that can make her laugh is Griff or Coop playing wildly--she thinks it's hilarious.  And it is so obvious she already looks up to big brother Griff.

Hattie, you couldn't be sweeter.  Smiling all the time, you light up the room.  Your sweet little voice coos and giggles and your movements are so baby-like and perfect.  As much as you love watching us, we LOVE watching you.  I can't believe you are 5 months are such a big girl!

Hattie: 4 months

Wow, are we behind.  She will be 5 months on July 25th....eeek!  Believe it or not, her actual baby book is up to date, trying very hard not to slack in that department just because she's the second baby.

Hattie's 4th month was a great one.  She is still smiling up a storm and to that she's added a giggle.  She loves to play peek-a-boo and be tickled under her chin, on her belly and by squeezing her chubby little legs.

She is still eating on her same schedule 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, and I think she eats about 5-6 ounces at most feedings.  Her morning naps are unpredictable, but it's my fault.  We are too busy with summer to stop and let her nap in a crib until the afternoons.  But she does take a pretty reliable afternoon nap.

She doesn't need to be swaddled anymore, and just sleeps in a sleepsack but she is starting to want something covering her face....crazy girl!  She likes those Aden Anais little lovies and she chews on it and snuggles it up by her face.

Her fourth month was also very special because Brooklyn and Hailey came to visit from DC!  (More on that later)

Her favorite thing to do is watch Griffin, and even Cooper and while she is getting into toys a little bit, she much prefers to converse with people, look into eyes and smile.

Hattie at only 4 months old, you are such a sweetie.  We love you!

New definition of "dates"

Well, two kids definitely makes it harder to have "date night."  Especially Hattie being so young, and still nursing. Our parents are so good at offering their time to spend it with the grandkids, but it is just a hassle with a newborn and toddler.
The other problem is that our schedule is already so busy that it is hard to actually find a date that works.
So one random weekend day, my mom called and wanted to see the kids.  So we scooped them into the car with all of their gear and headed to her house, dropped them off and headed to the golf course.  It was a gorgeous day, clear blue sky and perfect temp. On hole 6 it started pouring, out of nowhere.  Then the sirens went off, so our decision was made easy.
Rather than letting the rain ruin our impromptu date, we camped out on the porch of the clubhouse and continued our date.  Like I said, different.  Not bad, just different than what it used to look like.
We also try to spend at least a little time each night, with just each other.  After the kids are asleep, sometimes it can feel like there is so much to do, or all you want to do is sit on the couch and veg.  But we try to make it a point to focus on each other.  Cribbage is how we do that.  We have a running total of wins/losses for the past few years, and I will humbly admit that I'm on a bit of a losing streak.  Win or lose, it seems to prompt good conversation and quality time as if we were on a date in our own porch.  Again, just different.
Kids have caused us to get a little creative with dates, but what really matters is making each other a priority, giving each other focused attention, and spending quality time together.  Plus, sure does make us appreciate a dinner date out on the town!

I recently read (well, started reading) 1000 Gifts.  While I haven't finished it, it has prompted some thinking or some realizing, the gifts I am surrounded by,  I take lots of pictures on my phone, some make it to instagram, facebook, etc. So, in case that's the only place they make it, here are some moments, I've captured in the last month or so.
Here they are.  My three main gifts.  Nate, Griffin and Hattie.
Griffin playing outside and having fun with water. In really cold weather.
Hattie, watching big brother.  All the time.

Baby Hattie.

Sleeping and snuggling.

Griffin playing with me, always.

Griff putting on a show, Hattie watching.
Watching your parents love your kids.

Fresh flowers and neighborhood wildlife.

Hattie, always a good sport, tagging along to Griffin's activities.  And her beautiful wide eyes that make you never want to look away.

The faces that make me smile hundreds of times, every day.

Watching them learn new things, like recognizing me.  Realizing your kids love you.

 Being goofy.
 Backyard hanging.
I will remember this summer as the summer I sat in the shade with Hattie while we watched Griff, cheered for Griff, laughed at/with Griff and sat looking at each other, making each other smile.

 Mama and Hattie time.
 Savouring baby-ness.

 Watching her sleep.

Watching Griffin and Cooper play, tease and fall in love with each other.
And once again, my daily blessings.

 Cooper too.
