1st Birthday Fun

Griffin's First Birthday Party.  A huge success.  Thank you to the friends and family who came to help us celebrate!  As you can see, Griffin was blessed with many new toys!

Getting ready for the party took the better part of about a week and half (using the small clumps of time Griffin gives me during naps).  We had a little birthday banner and year in review (seen above in the porch), and a few more recent pics for our guests to take as a souvenir.

I also recently got a free photo book at Shutterfly, and decided to make Griffin a first year in review photo book.

I also made Griffin this "1" polo shirt (didn't make the shirt, just sewed on the "1") and the matching madras pants (using this pattern).

I made cupcakes and cookies, pomegranate lemonade, and some food (recipes coming soon).
We got this First Birthday Cake from Kowalski's, which was free with a $10 purchase (who can't spend $10 on something in a grocery store to get a free cake!)

Giving Griffin his first birthday cake was all it was cracked up to be and more.  He was an all-star perfect first time cake eater.
At first, not so sure what to do with this giant thing on my tray....
Then he tasted some of the birthday doggie on the cake....and clapped for himself.
 He tasted a little more....
And clapped for himself a little more....Griffin is the type of kid who feeds into attention.  The more he gets, the bigger show he puts on.
Then he did some precise calculating.  Trying to figure out just what this giant thing was....
And started pounding the top of it....
 He tried the fork, but....
decided to just pick the whole thing up instead!
It was every bit as funny as our neighbor Vivian thinks it is:)
This is when he starts feeding into the attention.  Everyone laughing at him, mouths open, so he just opens his mouth right back at everyone.
What can I even say....I think this speaks for itself:)
Just when we thought he was done, he puts a little extra effort into it.
Then he really got his hands dirty....

Took a few more bites...
 Licked his fingers....
Offered some to dada and anyone else who wanted....

 Cousin Levi observed with caution...

(Don't forget this was you last year Levi:)

And we're done.

If you want to spend a minute of your time watching it all go down....I'll add a post of the video soon.

After cake he read his cards....
He opened some presents (an awesome fedora that he will keep on his head if I have to glue it on).

And went straight to bed.  I opened the rest of his presents for him and had them all waiting the next morning.  He couldn't even wait to get out of his nighttime diaper...."car, Car, CAR, CAAARRRR," was his only thought the entire morning.
He also seemed to have really taken a liking to this piece of the block set....still thinks he's a dog, I guess...
...or that he's got a little stogie.

Griffin had a fabulous first birthday.  The weather, though chilly, cooperated just in time, Griffin practiced his walking skills, loved his first taste of sweets and is still diving into many new toys.  In some ways it is a little sad that his first year is over, but he has already become such an amazing little boy, I can't wait to see what the next year of his life has in store for him.
